What Is Personalized Learning?

Students learn in different ways and at different paces. At OSC, personalized learning is a teaching model based on that premise. Each student gets a “learning plan” based on how they learn, and what their skills and interests are. It’s the opposite of the “one size fits all” approach used in most classrooms.

Students work with their teachers to set both short-term and long-term goals. This process can help them take ownership of their learning. On the other hand, teachers need to make sure their learning plans match up with academic standards. And they check to see if students are demonstrating the skills that they are expected to learn as they progress through their education.

Some of the benefits of personalized learning include:
1. Higher student engagement: students take an active role in their education and contribute to their learning in a meaningful way.
2. Greater differentiation: each student can study at their own pace, and the teacher can differentiate their teaching methods and content based on the individual ability of each student.
3. More flexibility: students who need less structure, or benefit from less rigidity, are more likely to show academic and social success.
4. Increased instructor-student time: students can get the personalized attention they need to have their questions answered in one-on-one discussions with their teachers. So it increases the chances of the students’ success due to the time that their instructors give them. It also enhances their problem-solving and communication skills.

Thus, the major advantage of personalized learning lies in its flexibility and its ability to cater to individual student needs. It offers students the freedom to be able to learn independently, customizing a curriculum and experience to accommodate individual learning styles.
